The instructor, Ernie Wheeler, has been foraging mushrooms for over two decades and has been selling wild mushrooms to restaurants and consumers in North Carolina since the 2017 position statement from the Division of Public Health laid out requirements to do so.
Ernie has also been active in education, both in and out of the classroom, since 1998. He started laying out ideas for a certification course years ago, recognizing the need for a high-quality, NC-specific, reasonably-priced certification course that includes continuing support for all participants in North Carolina’s wild mushroom network.
